S. Shankar’s directorial and Ram Charan-starrer political action thriller Game Changer hit the theatres in January 2025 with huge expectations, but it became a huge disappointment. Despite having a strong box office opening, the film failed to impress the audience.

Now, Game Changer producer Dil Raju reflected on the film’s failure and expressed his disappointment with director Shankar.

During a recent interview with M9 News, Dil Raju shared his regrets about producing the film and called it a ‘wrong step’.

He agreed with the film’s editor Shameer Muhammed, who previously revealed how he edited a 7–7.5 hours long film to four and a half hours, but another editor was brought in who reduced the film down to 2.5–3 hours.

The producer reacted to the statement and said, “When making big films with big directors, 100% problems are going to come up—not only for me but for almost everyone. The editor’s statement about Game Changer once having a runtime of four and a half hours is true, and such interference is bound to happen when working with big directors.”

Dil Raju said that when working on big films with renowned directors, problems were inevitable, not just for him but for everyone involved. He confirmed the editor’s statement that Game Changer had initially had a runtime of four and a half hours, attributing such challenges to the nature of collaborations with big directors.

However, the producer further noted that it was a mistake not to sign a proper contract while working with a big director like Shankar. He admitted that, “It’s a producer’s responsibility is to stop it when something goes wrong but I couldn’t stop it. That’s my failure.”

While accepting his mistake, he added, “I have to accept it and that means I shouldn’t have taken such project. In my film career, I had never worked with such big directors. Game Changer was my first wrong step. I should have clearly mentioned my points in the contract and moved into production, but I didn’t. It was my first mistake and I am accepting it and moving on.”

Game Changer also stars Kiara Advani in the pivotal role. The film revolves around an honest IAS officer’s fight against a corrupt political system through fair and transparent elections.
